SAC Recognizes Faculty Members During National Distance Learning Week

San Antonio College recognized the accomplishments of two faculty members during National Distance Learning Week. Laurie Lopez Coleman, professor of English, and Linda Hughes Peterson, adjunct faculty in the Department of Computer Information Systems (CIS), were both honored for their exceptional leadership in the distance learning field.

Coleman has been on the faculty of the English program at SAC for 20 years and is currently the chair of the Open Educational Resources Task Force. She has served on the Honors Academy for the past six years as an advisor and teacher and, for several years, served as the co-coordinator of the SAC Multi-Cultural Conference. She is recognized for teaching composition and technical writing online.

Peterson is a full-time adjunct with the CIS department teaching programming to SAC students as well as to Travis Early College High School and Alamo Academies dual credit students. She is QM qualified and is actively using the QM coursework in her online and blended classes. She also works closely with other CIS faculty members to implement QM practices into their courses. In addition, Peterson has participated in the development of courses with a new automated/simulated environment for two popular courses-COSC 1301 and ITSC 1301. She is a member of the Alamo Chapter of Project Management Institute and secretary of the local chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals.
