FAQs

Why do I need to provide a school code?

The college school code is what the Department of Education will use to identify to which college(s) to forward your FAFSA information.

If I'm not sure which of the Alamo Colleges I would like to attend, can I list more than one?

Please add school codes for all campuses you are interested in attending.

Please note that by adding more than one school code, it could delay processing your financial aid by a week. Also, if you change your Home School, your financial aid package will need to be updated and processing time could take at least a week after the change has been made.

If I list all four school codes, how will my primary institution be determined?

The college where you apply for admission, enroll, and receive financial aid will be considered your primary institution.

What if I'm considering enrolling at Northeast Lakeview?

Effective Fall 2013, students whose primary institution (with the Admissions office) is San Antonio College, Palo Alto College, St. Philip’s College or Northwest Vista College can use federal financial aid to help pay for  Northeast Lakeview courses.

During Northeast Lakeview's accreditation period, students whose primary institution is Northeast Lakeview will continue to not be eligible for federal financial assistance. To change your eligibility status, submit a Change of Primary Institution form with the Admissions office to update your primary institution to SAC, PAC, SPC, or NVC.

What if I decide not to attend the Alamo Colleges or am transferring to another institution, do I need to remove the school codes from my FAFSA?

No, but you will need to add the other institution's school code in order for your FAFSA information to be forwarded. Once the institution receives your FAFSA information, eligibility will be determined. Your financial aid at the Alamo Colleges including Federal Pell Grant and Direct Loans will not transfer.

IMPORTANT:  Beginning with the Fall 2013 semester, all Alamo College students whose primary institution is San Antonio College, Palo Alto College, St Philip’s College or Northwest Vista College can use any federal financial assistance they may be receiving to help pay for any course they are registered in at the Northeast Lakeview campus, regardless of whether it is a SAC or NLC course.  Students with Northeast Lakeview as their Home School continue to not be eligible for federal financial assistance.
