The Ballard of Emmett Till

Free Staged Reading

Add to Calendar

All are invited to attend the free exhibition, staged performances and discussions of the play “The Ballad of Emmett Till” by playwright Ifa Bayeza and directed by St. Philip's College assistant professor Vincent Hardy on Sept. 16 at 3 p.m. in the Chiego Lecture Hall of McNay Art Museum at 6000 North New Braunfels St. in San Antonio.

The Ballad of Emmett Till tells the story of a boy who sparked the civil rights movement of the 1950s. Directed by Vincent Hardy, five San Antonio actors capture the powerful truths at the heart of the story, creating a work of poetry and theatricality. Following the reading, Vincent Hardy and Jody Blake, curator, Tobin Collection of Theatre Arts, lead a discussion. On Sept. 13, playwright Ifa Bayeza joins the discussion; on Sept. 16, the cast joins the discussion.
