Black History Month Poetry Contest

Add to Calendar

Write an original poem about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and how his work, beliefs, and ideas are reflected in these 4 NVC values that we share today.

  • Community:       We value a community in which all members are empowered to contribute as learners and learners, practicing and building  mutual trust.
  • Caring:                  We value caring – for ourselves, for each other, and for this place – and exhibit that caring through service to others.
  • Synergy:              We value working together to make our shared vision a reality, recognizing that the whole we can create together is greater than the sum of its parts.
  • Diversity:            We value diversity, appreciating different ways of knowing and ways of living and recognizing that our diversity is a source of strength.

Entries must be original work and incorporate the idea or an example of each of the four values listed above. When submitting the poem, please include:

  • Full Name
  • Banner ID#
  • Major
  • Anticipated graduation/transfer year

Entries must be received in the Student Life Office, CCC 126, by 5pm on Feb 21, 2013.  Email entries will also be accepted at kblanco@alamo.edu

The contest winner will receive a $100 Scholarship
