Frequently Asked Questions

Students graduating from high school, currently enrolled college students, former college students, or first time in college students may apply for scholarships.

Priority Deadline: APRIL 1

Most of our scholarships are awarded from applications submitted as of APRIL 1.

If you miss the APRIL 1 deadline, you can submit an application up to September 15th to be considered for any additional scholarships that may become available. 

Students may apply for an Alamo Colleges Foundation scholarship online at http://www.alamo.edu/main.aspx?id=2467 

There are some departmental scholarships that require you complete a separate scholarship application.  Please inquire about these scholarships with your major academic department.

The Alamo Colleges Foundation offers many different scholarships.  It is important that you fully complete the application to allow us to consider you for every scholarship for which you may be eligible.

 Yes.  You will be notified by email or by mail if you are awarded a scholarship.

Please read the notification we send and follow the directions.  We ask you to accept (or decline) the scholarship, write a thank you letter to the donor, and complete a biographical information sheet.  Once we receive these documents, we will do a final verification of scholarship criteria and send the scholarship to financial aid to post to your student account.

Yes, the essay is very important.   Scholarship application essays are reviewed by scholarship judges and selection committees. In addition to GPA, volunteerism, leadership, and community service, your essay should set you apart and let scholarship judges and committee members know why they should rate your application above all the other applicants.

Most scholarships require you be enrolled full time (12 credit hours or more).  Some scholarships require a minimum of 6 credit hours (part time).

It depends on the scholarship criteria.  Most require a 2.5 or greater grade point average.  Others require at least a 2.0 GPA.

Yes.  If you wish to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete and submit the online application every year.

No.  Once you submit the application, you cannot make any changes.  It is important to review your application and essay(s) before you submit it.

Some scholarships require additional documents such as letters of recommendation, or an additional essay. We will contact you to submit these documents if you are being considered for such scholarships.

Please do not indent paragraphs.  Eliminate any excess spaces after sentences. One sentence should follow directly after another without multiple spaces in between.

Yes.  Alamo Colleges recognize developmental coursework in consideration toward enrollment hours. Refer to the scholarship criteria for which you are applying. If it states that developmental courses (such as READ 0300, ENGL 0301, so forth) are not allowed in the requirements of a particular scholarship, then you would not be considered in that pool of applicants; however, the majority of all AC Foundation scholarship opportunities allow developmental courses. When you attend other colleges outside of the Alamo Colleges, please refer to their policy for determination of whether or not credit hours can be considered in status (full time or part time).

If you are a high school senior, transfer student, or will be a 1st time student at Alamo Colleges in the Fall 2013 or Spring 2014 semester you must submit a transcript.

It is important you submit a transcript because when applications are reviewed, a score is determined for GPA. Your application will not include GPA points if we do not know your GPA.
