Dr. WoodDr. David Wood is a native San Antonian who graduated from Trinity University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in Physics in Physics and Mathematics. In 2000, he earned his Ph.D. in Planetary Science from the University of Arizona, teaching high school physics at Santa Rita HS in Tucson and developmental math classes at Pima Community College along the way. From 2000 – 2002, Dr. Wood was Visiting Professor of Physics at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM.

In 2002, Dr. Wood joined the Astronomy faculty at San Antonio College where he quickly became involved in numerous college leadership activities. In 2011, he assumed the role of Director of Institutional Research, Planning, and Effectiveness, guiding the College’s strategic planning and effectiveness activities. In June 2013, he was selected to become the Dean of Performance Excellence.

Dr. Wood is a longtime member of The Planetary Society, the National Space Society, the Mathematical Society of America, and the Texas Community College Teacher’s Association. As a graduate student, he was a charter member of the Teaching Teams peer tutoring program at the University of Arizona. In 2000, he became the first recipient of the Planetary Science Department’s Graduate Teaching Excellence Award, and the only two-time winner of the University of Arizona’s Graduate Student Teaching Award, earning it in both 1997 and 2000.

Dr. Wood is the eldest of eight children, and he (currently) has thirteen nieces and nephews. His greatest pleasure in life is spending time with his large, and still expanding, family.
