Dr. Bernard K. Weiner, a physician in private practice in San Antonio since 1958, is board certified in family practice and geriatric medicine. He earned a bachelor's degree in anatomy and physiology from Indiana University, where he also earned his medical degree. He interned at Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1958.
His professional affiliations include membership in the Bexar County Medical Society. He has served on the society's peer review, the board of directors and the board of censors. He is also a member of the Texas Medical Association, the Alamo Chapter of the Academy of Family Physicians, the Texas Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Family Physicians. He was a charter fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians in 1972. He served as president of the Alamo Academy of Family Practice and was chosen Family Physician of the Year by that organization in 1987 and 2004. He also is a member of the VFW, the Harp and Shamrock Society, Greyhound Pets of America and the American Legion, where he served as Vice Commander of Post # 2.
In addition to his private practice, Weiner was chief of the department of family practice at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, where he was also vice chief of staff and chief of staff. He served as clinical assistant professor of family practice and clinical associate professor of family practice at the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. He is currently a clinical professor of family practice there. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Texas Tech Medical School.
Among his many awards and honors, Weiner was selected to appear in Best Doctors in America, listed in the guide to top doctors in America and was selected as one of America's top physicians in 2003. He was also named a Texas Super Doctor in 2004 and a San Antonio Top Doctor in 2006. In addition to this, Weiner was named a fellow of the American Geriatrics Society in 1963 and a fellow of the royal Society of Health in 1973. He was named a distinguished associate of Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Medicine in 1982. He received the Otis R. Bowen, M.D. Distinguished Leadership Award from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2002.
An active hiker, having completed 1,400 miles hiking to date, Weiner is a member of the American Volksport Association, the Texas Wanderers and the Randolph Roadrunners. He and his wife, Judge Marcia Weiner, have three children, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Their family also includes one retired racing Greyhound.
