Dr. Bruce Leslie, Alamo Colleges Chancellor, charged the SAC Presidential Search Committee to send forward at least three, but no more than five, presidential candidates for consideration.  After thorough deliberation and consultation from the Goldhill Associates Search Firm, the Search Committee chose to send forward all four final candidates that visited San Antonio College in late May/early June.  After meeting with the candidates, Chancellor Leslie will recommend one candidate to the Alamo Colleges Board of Trustees for approval.  As more information becomes available, it will be posted on this website.

Wednesday, May 21st - Lawrence Brandyburg, Ph. D.

  Lawrence Brandyburg
Dr. Lawrence Brandyburg has served as the Vice President of Instruction & Student Success at Lone Star College University Park in Houston, Texas since 2012.  Over the last decade, he has also held the positions of Instructional Dean, Acting Vice President of Instruction, Executive Director of the University Center, Department Chair of Behavioral Sciences, and Special Assistant to the Vice President of Academic & Student Development within the Lone Star College system.  As well, he taught Sociology for 12 years at Lone Star College-Tomball.  Prior to joining the ranks of higher education, Dr. Brandyburg was an officer in the U.S. Army for eight years and worked as a manager of Toys R Us for eight years.  Dr. Brandyburg holds a Ph. D. in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.

Thursday, May 22nd - Leslie Navarro, Ph.D.

 Leslie Navarro
A former College President at Morton College in Cicero, IL, Dr. Leslie Navarro has since worked as a primary caregiver, strategic advisor for businesses and companies, and as a Consultant Evaluator with the Higher Learning Commission.  Her tenure as President of Morton College lasted four years from 2008-2012.  Prior to being President, she held the positions of Executive Vice President of Administrative and Academic Affairs/Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Administration/Chief Financial Officer.  Dr. Navarro was a tenured associate professor and the head librarian at Austin Community College from 1999 to 2006.  She has earned a Ph. D. in Educational Administration from UT-Austin in 2005.

Friday, May 23rd - Ric Baser, Ed.D.

Ric Baser 

Ric Baser, Ph. D., has been the Vice President & Chief Academic Officer at Tulsa Community College since 2008.  Previously, he worked for Rose State College in Midwest City, Oklahoma as the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Vice President for Student Affairs.  He also taught a course in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at The University of Oklahoma in 2005 and worked as the Associate Director/Graduate Research Associate for High School and College Relations for seven years.  Earlier in his career, he worked at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma and served in various capacities including as Director of Alumni and School Relations.  Dr. Baser holds an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from Oklahoma State University.

  Tuesday, May 27th - Robert Vela, Ed.D.


  Robert Vela
Dr. Robert Vela, Ed.D., is the Vice President for Student and Academic Success at San Antonio College and serves as the Chief Academic and Student Success officer.  In 2010, he briefly served as the Interim District Director for the Center of Student information for the Alamo Colleges district.  Before coming to SAC, Dr. Vela held the position of Dean of Student Development at San Jacinto College - North Campus.  He has also worked at Coastal Bend College and Texas A&M University-Kingsville and San Antonio, University of Texas Pan American, Sam Houston State University, University of the Incarnate Word and others.  He earned an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership in 2003.

About the Search Process: 

Dr. Robert Zeigler, current SAC President, announced his retirement in January 2014.  The Search for a new College President began in April 2014.
