We are excited to announce three excellent candidates for the Vice President of Student Success position.  The finalists will each spend a day at San Antonio College. At this time, the campus community will have the opportunity to meet the candidates and learn more about them. 

There will be two General Sessions during each of the candidate's visit days.

Juan GarciaJuan Garcia's leadership and administrative experience includes directing admissions, counseling and advisement, testing and assessment centers, students with disabilities centers, career and employment centers, transfer centers, centers for academic success (tutoring), recruitment, student activities, veteran centers, student activities, TRIO programs, financial aid, international admissions and study abroad, student health centers, registrar's office, and community outreach.

Juan Garcia has held the positions as Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Vice president for Student Development/Services, Dean of Student Services, Director of External Affairs and Development, Director of Admissions, and Assistant Director for Enrollment Management Services.

Dr. Garcia received his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at San Antonio; Masters Science in Guidance and Counseling from Texas A&M at Kingsville; and Doctorate from University of Texas at Austin, TX.

Diane WalleserDiane Walleser most recently served as the Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Services at Columbus State Community College in Columbus, Ohio.  She reported directly to the president and oversaw programs and services to promote the academic achievement, success and personal development of the college's 24,000 students.  During her tenure at Columbus State, Walleser implemented a broad scale process improvement system to enhance the student experience, championed the development of a student one-stop center and redesigned student recruitment which contributed to a significant enrollment increase.

Prior to her work experience at Columbus State, Walleser spent ten years at Madison Area Technical College in Wisconsin where she served in various roles at the nine-campus 40,000-student school, including Vice President of Marketing, Public Relations and Campus Administrator.

Walleser has an Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership from Edgewood College in Madison, a M.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, a  Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Viterbo University in La Crosse, and an Associate of Applied Science in Finance from Western Technical College in La Crosse.

Gerardo MorenoGerardo Moreno learned all about the value of higher education as a young boy, when he met Hispanic labor leader, civil rights activist and farm worker César Chávez while picking grapes with his family.  After having dinner with Chavez, Moreno soon realized his calling to help at-risk students succeed.  Gerardo Moreno is the Assistant Vice President for Student Success at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.  Moreno is responsible for general oversight of campus retention efforts and academic support programs including:  The Center for Academic Student Achievement, Islander Student Advocate Program, all federally funded student assistance programs including TRIO SSS-Regular, SSS-Teacher Prep, SSS-STEM, First in the World, Title V, and a varienty of other academic functions, including coordinating campus efforts for developmental education and retention efforts for undergraduate students.

Prior to assuming this position Moreno was the Director of the Tutoring and Learning Center at A&M-Corpus Christi and responsible for creating a campus wide Developmental Education Plan.  Before going to A&M-Corpus Christi in 1994 he held administrative positions at Coastal Bend College.  He received his B.S. in Secondary Education, M.S. in Counseling, an M.S. in Education, and his doctoral degree is in higher education administration.  Moreno is a certified developmental education specialist completing his studies at Appalachian State University in  Boone, North Carolina.

Moreno has more than twenty years experience working in higher education in the areas of developmental education, and academic student support programs.  He has numerous professional certifications including his studies at the Kellogg Institute for the Training and Certification of Developmental Educators, certification by National Association of Developmental Education, and certification from the College Reading and Learning Association.  He was also an evaluator for the International Tutoring Certification Program Committee.  His programs have received the National Tutoring Association Outstanding Program Award.
