Kirby Middle School and Salinas Elementary
Dr. Follins visited Kirby Middle School and Salinas Elementary, both in Judson ISD on September 24. He toured each of the campuses and spent time in several of the classrooms reading to students and asking students about their long-term educational and career goals. This visit is one of many that will take place as Northeast Lakeview College launches its Adopt-A-School initiative, a partnership between Northeast Lakeview College and Judson ISD. The idea behind this initiative is to get students engaged in college as early as possible.

NLC Representatives Meet with Local ISD
Representatives from student success and the president’s office at NLC met with principals from three Judson ISD on September 5. The core group discussed the beginning components for an Adopt-A-School initiative that Northeast Lakeview College is considering. NLC is looking to partner with two elementary schools and one middle school within Judson ISD. While still in its initial stages, the core team did identify some key issues where NLC could provide guidance. The idea behind this initiative is that the two educational entities will work together to introduce students to college early in life and that NLC employees will become engaged.

5th Graders Get a Sneak Peak at College
5th Graders Visit 2 15122 5th graders visited NLC on Friday, February 20. Visiting students were given a campus tour and participated in a Myers-Briggs Personality Assessment. The students
also completed a “reality check” which allowed them to see the required salary to support their lifestyle, and participate in a College Quiz Show, allowing each class to
put their college knowledge up against other classes.

Math Teacher ExchangeNLC/JISD Math Teachers Exchange Ideas
The NLC Math department hosted teachers from Kirby Middle School for a Math Workshop. Various math topics were covered during one hour sessions. In addition to instruction, the workshop gave us the opportunity to discuss the issues middle school teachers are dealing with in the classroom and to discuss support that NLC may be able to provide to the Kirby teachers.
