Alamo Colleges District Board Chair Thanks Bexar County Voters for Historic Bond Approval
May 22, 2025
The Alamo Colleges District is expressing gratitude to the voters of Bexar County following the successful passage of a $987 million bond – the largest in the district’s history. The bond, approved by voters on May 3, 2025, will fund new regional academic and workforce facilities.
In a San Antonio Express-News letter to the editor published on May 21, Dr. Clint Kingsbery, Alamo Colleges District Board Chair, shared appreciation for the community’s overwhelming support and outlined the transformational impact of the bond:
“On May 3, Bexar County voters approved the largest bond in the Alamo Colleges District’s history. The Alamo Colleges District currently serves nearly 80,000 students, and by 2029, that number is expected to climb to 100,000 or more. Thanks to voter support, we are ready to meet this rising demand, expanding our reach and deepening our impact across the region. New and expanded facilities will be built: a school of nursing and health professionals at the South Texas Medical Center, an automotive and advanced manufacturing center at Brooks, and a school of emerging technologies at Port San Antonio. Each expansion ties directly to high-wage, high-demand career fields critical to our county’s continued growth. The bond also builds on the momentum of AlamoPROMISE, which offers tuition-free college to Bexar County high school graduates, and our Promise-to-Promise partnerships, which create clear, affordable pathways from our five Alamo Colleges to four-year universities. But education alone is not enough. The Alamo Colleges and our partners provide the wraparound services students need to succeed, including advising, food pantries, mental health support, transportation and child care. When students face challenges, we help them stay on track inside and outside the classroom, and this holistic approach is working. Thank you, Bexar County voters. You have brought us one step closer to our moon shot: partnering to end poverty through education and training.” |
