NLC Student Recognized as January Student of the Month

Crystal Gutierrez, a nutrition student at Northeast Lakeview College, was recognized as the Alamo Colleges – La Prensa Foundation Inspirational Student of the Month for January 2012. Gutierrez was recognized at the January 24 Board Meeting and received $500 funded by the La Prensa Foundation founded by Amelia and Tino Duran.

After one of her young children tested as having several food allergies, Ms. Gutierrez decided to return to school and pursue a degree in Nutrition. Ms. Gutierrez says, “I want to be able to teach people how to eat the right foods, find the foods that are healthy for their bodies, and help people live a happy, healthier lifestyle.”
Crystal will complete her coursework at Northeast Lakeview College this spring and will transfer to Texas State University to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition. Her ultimate goal is to receive a Master’s degree.

The Alamo Colleges recognizes students for the La Prensa Foundation Award monthly, on a rotating schedule by college.
