Nearly 20 students traveled with Palo Alto College Office of Student Engagement & Retention Director Carmen Velasquez and staff member Eloisa Cordova to Austin to meet with legislators on Community College Day on Tuesday, Feb. 5. The Texas Association of Community Colleges schedules the day as a way for students to meet with their representatives and observe the legislative process.
The students met with State Rep. Philip Cortez, a PAC alumnus who served on Student Government when he attended the college. They also met with State Sen. Carlos Uresti, who posted a message and picture on his official Twitter account saying, "Just met with an ambitious group of students from Palo Alto College. Heart of the Southside!" Both men received a special PAC Veterans Affairs coin from PAC Student Veterans Organization Secretary Vincent Garcia.
