Student of the Month

Elena Starciuc
Major: Business Administration
GPA: 4.0
Northwest Vista College

Elena Starcuic is the recipient of the May 2012 La Prensa Foundation Inspirational Student of the Month award and will receive $500 funded by La Prensa Foundation founded by Amelia and Tino Duran.

Elena was born in Moldova and earned her high school diploma there in 2011. She came to the U. S. seeking a higher education degree and better opportunities. Currently, she is involved in 4 organizations at NVC. Elena is a member of the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, a participant in the Student Leadership Institute, the speaker coordinator for the NVC Business Student Organization and Vice-President of Leadership in Phi Theta Kappa. Moreover, she works part time as an accounting tutor on campus. As tutor Elena demonstrates leadership on a daily basis. She has won the students’ respect in part by her ability to break down complex ideas into smaller chunks that can be easily understood by fellow students.

Although Elena’s passion is business, she never forgets that people and relationships are the most important in this life. In addition to her involvement with NVC’s student organizations, she has delivered Meals on Wheels, built houses with Habitat for Humanity, painted over graffiti downtown, and volunteered at the 2012 Rock & Roll San Antonio Marathon. She is committed to completing her degree at NVC and then getting her Bachelor’s in Business Administration. Her goal is to start her own business.
Elena Starciuc truly exemplifies the kind of student the Alamo Colleges and La Prensa Foundation envisioned honoring with the Student of the Month Award.

Please help us in congratulating Elena Starciuc as the Alamo Colleges – La Prensa Foundation Inspirational Student of the Month Award for April 2013
