Poetry Slam

Poetry Slam at NVC

Huisache Hall Banquet Room at 2:00  

Poetry slam is the competitive art of performance poetry, with dual emphasis on writing and performance.  Poet performers will be evaluated by 5 judges on the POEM (poetic, figurative language, vocabulary, conveyance, and rhythm), INTERPRETATION (body movement, expressions, energy, emotion) and PERFORMANCE (projection, poem memorization, clear speech)  

Contest Rules: 

  1. Each poem must be of the poet's own construction 
  2. Each poet gets three minutes (plus a ten-second grace period) to read one poem.  
  3. The poet may not use props, costumes or musical instruments 
  4. Poets must be a student, faculty or staff member from NVC
