Vista Basketball Men Going to Semifinal

Congratulations to the Northwest Vista College men’s basketball team for having one of its best records in the last several years.

On March 19, the men’s team beat the University of Incarnate Word (UIW) with 78 over 72. During its regular season, the men had 10 wins and only two losses. In the Texas Collegiate Club Sports League, the NVC men’s team has the second best record. Victoria College is in first place, though NVC beat this team in late February.

The NVC men’s team is now headed to the semifinals on April 5, which will be hosted at UIW. The men will play at 6 p.m. If they win, they will progress to the championship round on April 6.

Coached by Irving Thomas, two standout players for the team are Desmond Hines and Joe Uribe, who average about 13 points per game. The other players are Adrian Lincon, Justice Fernandez, Alan-Michael Del Valle, Jose Ytuarte, Tory Prusak, Turundus Luckett, Erik Campos, Aaron Planco, Matthew White, Clifford Wallace and Justin Guerra.

The NVC women’s basketball team is also headed to the semifinals on April 5, playing at 2 p.m.

Coached by Daniel Johnson, the women’s team had eight wins and four losses during its regular season. The NVC women’s team is also in second place in the league, behind Victoria College.

The players are Amanda Martinez, Emerald Herrera, Josalyn Madrigal, Victoria Garcia, Aaliyah Granderson, Zerena Salinas, Clarissa Renteria, Mercedes Garrett, Lorena Garcia, Sarah Perez, Monica Avila and Kenesia Daniels.

Rounding out the NVC representation at UIW, the NVC women’s volleyball team, coached by Annette Berain, also has a spot at the semifinals tournament. The volleyball team plays at 11 a.m.

The volleyball players are Kelsey Bauers, Claudia Garcia, Angela Rubio, Emily Griffin, Gizelle Sarinana, Kayla Nandin, Ruth Gaitan, Analy Gallegos, Demi Caballero, Alexandra Lewis and Akina Pricer.
