Summer Theatre Camp Registration is Open

Attention all high school theatre enthusiasts!

Join San Antonio College this summer for one full week of acting, improv, movement, tech, rehearsal and a performance. Classes and rehearsals will culminate in a public performance of a one-act play.

This camp is available to San Antonio area students entering grades 9-12. Students may choose to focus on acting or technical theatre.

Camp cost is $80. A deposit of $40 is due by June 30, with the total amount due by July 13.

Only 50 students (40 acting, 10 technical) will be able to sign up for the camp. So sign up before it’s too late!

All acting students involved in the camp will be cast in a play. Technical students will serve as stage managers as well as experience lighting and sound board design.

Theatre faculty from San Antonio College and invited professionals will serve as instructors for the camp. Two instructors are Paula Rodriguez and Ronald Watson.

Rodriguez is a Theatre Instructor for the Fine Arts Department as San Antonio College. She is also the Theatre Program Coordinator. She previously taught at MacAuthur High School and Southlake Carroll Senior High. She has directed/co-directed six shows to the UIL State One-Act Play State Meet. Her students won the State 3A OAP Championship in 1995 and she was awarded Educator Theatre of the Year–Junior College level in 2011.

Watson, serving as the camp co-coordinator, has served as a secondary theatre educator for eleven years. He has participated in the One-Act Play contest at every level. Watson is the Director of the UIL State Theatrical Design Contest.

Camp starts with registration, orientation and auditions at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 13.

Classes and rehearsals begin July 14-18 and consist of warm-ups, acting and movement, play rehearsal and lunch. Wednesday, July 18 will be rehearsal time. A tech/dress rehearsal will take place the morning of Saturday, July 19 before the performance at 2 p.m. in the McAllister Auditorium. Drama Scholarships will be presented after the performance.

Camp hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, except July 13, which will run 2-5 p.m.

Contact Paula Rodriguez at 210-486-0492 or prodriguez197@alamo.edu for more information.
