Student of the Month Award April 2017 - La Prensa Foundation
Carlos Monge Prudencio is originally from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, but at the age of four he was diagnosed with severe form of leukemia, which prompted him and his family to come to the United States. After five years of treatment at Methodist Children’s Hospital in San Antonio, Carlos was cancer free. But his experience as a cancer survivor instilled in him a passion for medicine, and desire to help young patients face the hardship of illness and treatment.
Carlos has pursued his education with the same combination of fierce determination and good humor that helped him survive his illness. After two years at SAC, Carlos will be graduating in May as a Biology pre-nursing major with both a 4.0 GPA and the highest distinction from the San Antonio College Honors Academy. In the Fall he will begin the next step of his education at UT Health Science where he will earn his BSN. After earning his BSN he plans on continuing his education to become a Nurse Practitioner with a specialty in Pediatrics.
