Academic Support Center

Welcome!!

The Academic Support Center (ASC), located on the second floor of the library, provides tutoring, testing, and other academic support services to all students currently enrolled at Northeast Lakeview College. Assistance with basic math and writing courses is provided during all working hours. For tutoring in any 0300 level course (Math, English, or Reading) students may simply walk in at any time. Of course some times are busier than others. Early morning and evening hours are the best time to come to walk-in tutoring.

Assistance with other courses is available by appointment or students may also walk-in, but we do not have tutors for all courses available at all times. Check the Courses Tutored link to the right to find out when tutoring for higher level courses is available. Students in 0300 level courses may also make appointments. Appointments must be made at the ASC information desk on the second floor of the library. Appointments may be one-on-one or may be made for groups of students in the same class. Individual students or groups are limited to one hour of one-on-one tutoring per week. There is no limit on walk-in tutoring. Students may check their appointments by calling 486-5366.

Our math tutors can help you if you have a question about something you did not understand in class or if you wish to prepare for the Accuplacer test.

Writing tutors can help students develop ideas for their papers and give advice about how to revise writing assignments. Tutors do not edit or proofreed papers, but they can help students to identify the grammatical errors in their writing.

Tutors can also assist students enrolled in COSC 1301 (Introduction to Micro Computer Applications).

Students are encouraged to begin tutoring early in the semester to get the help they need. In order to maintain the academic integrity of Northeast Lakeview College, our tutors observe the following guidelines:

  • Tutors can help you make sense of what you don't understand, but they will not be your instructor.
  • Tutors can show you how to find the right answer, but they will not just give you the answer.
  • Tutors can review the homework that you have completed so that you can see your successes and failures, but they will not do your homework for you.
  • Tutors can help you learn how to read your textbook for understanding, but they will not explain something that you have not read.
  • Tutors can help you to achieve your learning goals, and they can meet with you one-on-one for one hour a week.
  • Tutors will expect nothing less than your best effort, and neither should you!!
