Northeast Lakeview College Welcomed Raul Ramos, author and University Of Houston Professor
(January 26, 2009) Raul Ramos presented his historical research recently published with the University of North Carolina Press as Beyond the Alamo: Forging Mexican Ethnicity in San Antonio, 1821-1861 at Northeast Lakeview College.
Professor Raúl Ramos presented his historical research on the origins of Tejano identity in 19th century San Antonio, recently published with the University of North Carolina Press. Introducing a new model for the transnational history of the United States, Raúl Ramos places Mexican Americans at the center of the Texas creation story. He focuses on Mexican-Texan, or Tejano, society in a period of political transition beginning with the year of Mexican independence. From the perspective of the Tejanos of San Antonio de Béxar, Anglo-Americans were immigrants and the battle of the Alamo was a war between brothers.
This presentation is part of the Northeast Lakeview College Social & Behavioral Sciences Speaker Series and was made possible in part with a grant from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
