ACCD’s Northeast Lakeview College to Officially Dedicate New College with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
(November 13, 2008) Northeast Lakeview College, the newest of the Alamo Community Colleges, will officially dedicate the new College with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on November 14th. The new Northeast Lakeview College, and newest comprehensive community college in the nation, is located off Loop 1604 & Kitty Hawk Rd and is a result of the 2005 bond election. Once all construction is complete, the $125M project will house over 365,000 square feet of academic and learning space.
Phase I of the two-phase project, which includes four of the campus’ nine buildings, is complete and opened its doors for classes in August 2008. Phase II buildings will include a Fine Arts Building, Performing Arts Center, Wellness Facility and Student Commons Building that will house all student services functions, including admissions, registration, financial aid, and the Business Office. Phase II buildings are scheduled to be open for classes in Fall 2009.
Currently, Northeast Lakeview College enrolls over 4,200 students and at capacity, the College will serve more than 15,000 students. “Northeast Lakeview College is a result of a ten-year community appeal and brings with it many opportunities to northeast Bexar County and the surrounding communities,” says Dr. Eric Reno, Northeast Lakeview College president. “This Dedication is about celebrating what we have accomplished and reflecting on a dream fulfilled.”
In addition, Northeast Lakeview College has partnered with Judson ISD to construct an Early College Partnership (ECP) High School. The passage of Proposition 4 in Judson’s 2006 bond issue sets aside $12 million for the creation of a 400-600-student college preparatory campus on the grounds of the future 238-acre, $125 million Northeast Lakeview College campus. ECP is designed to help students earn both a high school diploma and a two-year college associate’s degree within five years.
An official Dedication and Ribbon Cutting ceremony is scheduled for November 14th at 2pm at 1201 Kitty Hawk Rd. Senator Judith Zaffirini, Chair of the Senate Higher Education SubCommittee, has been invited and is scheduled to attend, along with ACCD and other state and local officials.
Note: Due to road construction on southbound Loop 1604, the exit at Kitty Hawk is marked only with an exit arrow sign. It is the first exit on southbound Loop 1604 past the 8300 Pat Booker campus location.
