Advanced Placement (AP) and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) Information for Mathematics

Students may receive college credit for having taken either AP (Advanced Placement) or CLEP (College Level Examination Program) tests.  If the student has received the necessary score for college credit, NVC will grant the student credit for that class, which will allow the student to progress to the next math course in their sequence within their degree plan.

AP Credit-Granting Scores and Semester Hour Recommendations¹

The Math Department currently grants credit for the following AP tests provided the student scores a 3 or higher.

¹ Students taking the AP test will earn equivalent college credit from the Alamo Colleges when attaining the scores indicated and the credit is treated as equal to a grade of C in the corresponding course (but is not included in GPA calculations). AP credit is not applied to the transcript until the student has successfully completed 6 regular college credits at one of the Alamo Colleges and students may not earn more than 32 total hours from any testing equivalency source.
