Getting Started in Distance Learning
Online classes offered through Distance Learning offer the same level of instruction and interaction with an instructor as taking a class on campus, and are taken for college credit. Therefore, if you are planning on taking online classes you need to be enrolled at Northwest Vista College as a student before you can register for a class. Here is an admissions checklist.
There are several steps to this process:
Start MyMap and finish modules on Introduction to College & Pathways and Admissions Process at www.alamo.edu/district/MyMap.
Apply to the College – if you have never attended college before, or you are transferring from another college you will need to apply for admission to NVC - www.applytexas.org. You will need to have been admitted to the college and received your Banner ID and Alamo Colleges account information before you can take placement exams or register for any classes. For more information about Banner and ACES visit the ACES gateway at aces.alamo.edu and click on the links under ACES Login Information.
Be prepared to submit official transcripts from high school and last college attended, or a GED certificate. For more information about sending transcripts to NVC visit www.alamo.edu/nvc/records/
Provide Proof of Bacterial Meningitis Vaccination - A new state law requires that entering students show evidence of receiving a bacterial meningitis vaccination or booster dose during the five year period prior to enrollment. The law allows for few exceptions. You may obtain additional information at www.alamo.edu/meningitis.
Apply for financial aid – this is not necessary, but many students qualify for some financial aid. Recommended deadlines – Fall semester, no later than April, Spring semester no later than October (NVC Federal school code is 033723). www.alamo.edu/district/financial-aid/
Take a placement exam if you do not have official SAT or ACT scores, or provide all official test scores and transcripts if transferring from another college. For more information about academic placement testing visit: www.alamo.edu/nvc/testing/
Attend an academic advising session. Fulfill your individual Academic Advising requirement. See information at www.alamo.edu/nvc/advising
FINALLY – register for classes and pay tuition/fees! To view the catalog, class schedule and register for classes visit: www.alamo.edu/nvc/current-students/register/ (you will need your ACES Account information to register)
