Welcome to the Northwest Vista College website outlining NVC’s reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-Commission on Colleges (SACS). Essential to NVC’s efforts regarding reaffirmation of institutional accreditation is a College-wide focus on continuous improvement, assessment, and accountability.

SACSCOC is one of six regional accrediting bodies that provide oversight of academic quality and rigor for most public and private institutions as well as oversight of compliance with federal regulations. Institutional accreditation is critical to any college or for three primary reasons. First, accreditation status determines a college or university’s eligibility for participation in federal and state financial aid. Second, maintaining accreditation is important for acceptance and transfer of college credit. Third, an accredited degree is typically a demonstration of institutional effectiveness.

NVC’s efforts toward ensuring SACSCOC reaffirmation of accreditation involve faculty and staff throughout the institution in a multifaceted process. A SACSCOC Reaffirmation Leadership Team, led by Debi Gaitan, Vice President for Student Success provides direction for all reaffirmation activities. The College Cabinet, Reaffirmation Leadership Team, Institutional Effectiveness Team, SACSCOC Compliance Team, Institutional Research Team, Deans and Academic Chairs, Program Review Teams, Academic and Student Support Teams are some of the teams composed of faculty and staff across the institution who have contributed to NVC’s compliance certification document which presents evidence of NVC’s compliance with all SACSCOC requirements and standards as well as with all federal requirements. A second institution-wide effort determined a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) topic. The QEP process is led by Denise Tolan, QEP Director and a committee engaging all college stakeholders in identifying a single topic to impact student learning.

Key to all of these efforts is self-study. The introspection and assessment of college-wide objectives and performance are perhaps the most important aspects of seeking reaffirmation of accreditation. The self-study is another strategy in ensuring a commitment to continuing institutional improvement, an outstanding education for our students, and an effective work environment for faculty and staff.
