All exams must be completed by end of scheduled test times.
a. The Accuplacer test is a state approved exam. It will identify your academic strengths and areas that may need more development to help you succeed in college courses. The test results are needed for all students who have had little or no previous college course work, even if a student is considered exempt/waived from the state's Texas Success Initiative (TSI) testing requirement. (Please click here to learn more about the TSI requirement)
b. The computer-administered exam consists of four sections:
- 90 minute essay
- 20 question multiple-choice non-timed Reading Comprehension
- 20 question multiple-choice non-timed Sentence Skills
- 12 question multiple-choice non-timed Elementary Algebra
c. Results are available immediately following the exam.
FIRST TIME IN COLLEGE STUDENTS
- Turn in official High School transcript
- Turn in any and all official test scores (ACT,SAT,TAKS,Accuplacer,THEA, ASSET)
- Complete MyMap Modules (this must be completed at least 24 hours prior to taking the Accuplacer)

TRANSFER STUDENTS
In order to determine if testing and placement is needed, we ask that you
- Turn in all official college transcripts
- Turn in any and all official test scores (ACT,SAT,TAKS,Accuplacer,THEA, ASSET)
- Take advantage of our test prep materials, under Helpful Links.
The Accuplacer Exam is available for the following students:
- First Time in College
- Previously tested on Accuplacer or THEA within the past 3 years and seeking to re-test
- Requiring an accommodation approved by the NVC Access Office
- Enrolling in a English as a Second Language (ESL) Courses
- Transferring from a college/university that must to take only a portion of the test
- Previous test scores are expired
a. The Accuplacer is given on a walk-in basis during the week. (Please refer to the schedule)
b. If you have approved accommodations through the NVC Access Office, you must make an appointment with the Testing Office at least 4 working days in advance.
i. Only accommodations such as reader/scribe and/or private room require an appointment.

a. You will need to have a valid photo ID.
b. You must have an application on file at one of the Alamo Colleges in order to test.
c. In order to take the placement exam, you will need to know your Banner ID (Student ID).

d. The exam fee of $29 for entire exam or $10 per section.
i. The fee is payable by cash, credit, check, or money order.
Please keep in mind that this is only a recommendation and that the student is eligible to retest on the next available test date.
