Student Story: Kevin
Kevin Kyle Laurente is only 19 and he already knows he wants to be a nurse when he gets older. It also helps that both his parents are nurses and he has been around the career for much of his life.
“Nursing provides a stable career and I hope to make a difference in people’s lives whether it’s one or many,” said Kyle.
This is Kyle’s third semester at NVC, and his goal is to get an associate degree before transferring to the University of Texas Health Science Center.
“I figured I would have something to show for before getting a bachelor’s degree,” added Kyle, who graduated from O’Connor High School.
After graduating from high school, Kyle said he felt like NVC was a fresh start for him since he moved from Victoria to San Antonio late in his high school career and didn’t have many friends while at O’Connor.
But right away at NVC, Kyle found his niche. He’s a part of the NVC Breakers, a break-dancing group at NVC that performs at a lot of campus events.
When he’s not dancing or studying, he enjoys going mountain biking on the weekends with his dad. He said it’s not uncommon for them to often do more than 20 miles during one ride.
“I’m enjoying my time at school and I enjoy coming to vista,” Kyle said.
