V2V Student Advocate Representative: Joshua Riley

Photo - Joshua RileyJoshua Riley, a current NVC Student,  served in the U.S. Army for 13 years. His duty stations include but are not limited to Ft. Huachuca, AZ, Schofield Barracks, HI, and Numerous assignments in Germany. He experienced combat on two trips to Afghanistan and four trips to Iraq. He held multiple NCO duties and responsibilities from Route Clearance Chief to Platoon Sergeant.

Upon ending his term of service Joshua attended Northwest Vista College. He is currently seeking an Associate of Arts in Teaching - 8-12 and Other EC-12; he will then attend Texas A&M San Antonio, TX, to get a Bachelors in Special Education (EC-12).

Since attending NWV Josh has helped found the veteran group “Open Ranks”. The intent for this group is an organization open to current and former US. Armed forces service members attending any of the Alamo Colleges.  This group’s primary aim is one of a social nature, (networks) but overlaps into the academic area as well.  They work with faculty and staff to raise awareness of veteran affairs and provide a network and mentorship to service members/veterans; they also enhance the community through worthwhile projects.

Joshua has been married for 6 years and has three children ages 10, 9, and 7. His hobbies include coaching football, volunteering, sports, debating and spending time with his family.
