Partnership of the Americas Project brings International Students to NVC
Northwest Vista College recently welcomed three students from the South American country of Peru. Representing the Partners of the Americas Project, Peruvian students, Jaime Cornejo, Jose Eduardo Taramona and Luis Medina, spent time interacting with Dr. Maria Pilar Damron's Elementary Spanish class. “The three students came from various areas of Peru and spoke to my class about the focus of their visit and the culture of their home country,” said Damron.
Traveling from Peru to the United States, the trio plans to conduct research for the development of special programs in their home country. Visiting various educational and private institutions throughout the United States, the group will discuss issues such as, drug abuse, AIDS, pollution and public safety.
Their research is aimed at providing insight into how these social issues affect the populations of both the U.S. and Peru. Based on collected data, the group will return and report their findings to the government of Peru. Together the students and Peruvian government intend to develop possible solutions to address the current socio-economic issues affecting Peruvian society.
The students trip to NVC was sponsored by the Partners of the Americas Project, along with the support of the U.S. State Department. The Partners of the Americas organization is a private, nonprofit, non-partisan organization that develops leadership, understanding and opportunity in the Western Hemisphere. The U.S. State Department is providing funding towards the students' special project. |
