Grant Mission
As math remains the largest obstacle to student success, persistence, and completion, Project Math Paths (PMP) endeavors to improve NVC’s three-year graduation rate, through a streamlined enrollment, advising, and placement process, as well as through the acceleration of students through the math core, by eliminating developmental math course hours.
Title V - Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions:
What Is It?
Program:
The Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program provides grants to assist Hispanic Serving Institutes (HSIs) to expand educational opportunities for, and improve the attainment of, Hispanic students. These grants also enable HSIs to expand and enhance their academic offerings, program quality, and institutional stability.
HSI Designation:
The U.S. Department of Education and the HSI Division do not officially grant an institution an HSI designation. Institutions are considered HSIs based on their grant award status for the duration of their grant award, which is five years. The Department defines an HSI as an institution of higher education that has an enrollment of undergraduate full-time equivalent students that is at least 25 percent Hispanic at the end of the award year immediately preceding the date of application.
Project Goals:
Objective 1:
By 2020, the Cypress Campus Center will be transformed into a Vista Central - One Stop Shop, and will be located within the center and fully operational
Objective 2:
By 2020, Project Math Path will provide intensive advising for no less than 88% of all FTIC students to support optimal math enrollment options; and SMAT advisement for continuing Developmental Math and STEM College Algebra-enrolled students
Objective 3:
By 2020, Project Math Path will have provided professional development for all math faculty on Intensive Math Advising, as well as for 50% of faculty and staff across the campus
Objective 1:
By 2020, the 3-year math completion rate will increase from the 20% (2014 baseline) for College Algebra to 60% core math complete
Objective 2:
By 2020, 90% of all developmental math students will receive end of course intensive advising
Objective 3:
By 2020, Project Math Path will increase 3-year low POE Developmental math core completion from 14% (2014 baseline) to 32%
Objective 4:
By 2020, Project Math Path will have fully operational and populated math acceleration for 2 levels of developmental math courses
Objective 5:
By 2020, NVC will increase the 3-year degree completion rate from 15% (2104 baseline) to 46%
Objective 1:
By 2020, institutionalize STEM acceleration for 20% of the FTIC exempt STEM majors
Objective 2:
By 2020, institutionalize EDUC protocols to support 50% FTIC STEM majors
Objective 3:
By 2020, institutionalize STEM Pit Stop – 1 week intensive math overhaul to support 20% of FTIC STEM majors
Objective 4:
By 2020, increase the course productive grade rates of students in College Level Algebra for STEM majors from 50% in Fall 2014 (baseline) to 60%
Objective 5:
By 2020, increase the rate of core math complete from 30% (2014 baseline) to 60%
Objective 6:
By 2020, NVC will increase the 3-year degree completion rate from approximately 15% (2014 baseline) to 46%
Objective 7:
Increase the core complete transfer rates from 30% (2014 baseline) to 40%
Objective 1:
By 2018, enhance Student Early Connections and College Entry (Access) by Creating a Vista Central - One Stop Shop for Students, by implementing a student tracking software program
Objective 2:
By 2020, provided professional development on Intensive Advising for all Student Success and Readiness Center staff
