Rainwater Harvesting Design & Installation

Rainwater Harvesting - 15 Hours

This two-day course offers a comprehensive presentation in residential and light commercial rainwater harvesting design and installation; using rainwater for irrigation and for potable use; sanitation for potable uses; rules, regulations, guidelines and restrictions; business management; project planning; site and installation safety; and system construction and maintenance. Tuition includes the textbook and a light breakfast and lunch for both days.

This two-day course offers a comprehensive presentation in residential and light commercial rainwater harvesting design and installation; using rainwater for irrigation and for potable use; sanitation for potable uses; rules, regulations, guidelines and restrictions; business management; project planning; site and installation safety; and system construction and maintenance. Tuition includes the textbook and a light breakfast and lunch for both days.

Students will specifically better understand the relationship between rainfall catchment surfaces, capacity of water storage, the expected amount of rain that occurs in the area of each installation to provide the volume of water required for potable or non-potable use. Water quality issues will also be addressed. Students will be prepared for employment with established rainwater harvesting companies or if so inclined, might provide design and installation services as an independent business. Students who are established plumbers or licensed irrigators can more easily add the knowledge presented during this course to offer additional services to clients. Depending on the jurisdiction, rainwater harvesting designers and installers may be required to work with licensed plumbers or licensed irrigation technicians.

This 2-Day Rainwater Harvesting Course within the Palo Alto College continuing education division is recognized by ARCSA to provide 200-Level instruction. As with most continuing education courses at Palo Alto College, this course is open to the public as well as those in the construction trades and anyone interested in pursuing greater understanding of rainwater harvesting. For students who wish to pursue ARCSA Accredited Professional (AP) designation, completion of a Level 200 course or workshop such as this is required. Membership in ARCSA and additional exam administered by ARCSA following the end of the course are also essential to earn ARCSA AP designation.

Those interested in applying for designation as an ARCSA Accredited Professional must attend the course ($395), become a member of ARCSA, submit an application to ARCSA, and pay the Administration and Examination fee ($150) to ARCSA to take an exam administered by ARCSA following the Palo Alto College course.

This class is offered on a quarterly basis, depending on course demand.

This class meets for 7 1/2 hours per day, for two days. Total instruction time is 15 hours. Classes are held at Palo Alto College, 1400 W. Villaret, San Antonio Texas, 78224.
