Healthcare

Nurse Aide in Healthcare (CNA)

NURA 1001 - Nurse Aide in Healthcare (CNA) (108 Hours)

This comprehensive program includes lecture and clinical components, and prepares students to achieve knowledge, skills, and abilities essential to provide safe care as entry-level nursing assistants to the residents of long term care facilities. Some of the topics include patient comfort and safety, range of motion for long term care residents, residents' rights, etc. This training program is licensed by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services.

Requirements:

  • Students must first apply and be accepted into the CNA program.
  • Students must be free of communicable diseases and in suitable physical/emotional health to safely care for patients. Students must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Students must not currently be listed on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry in a revoked status.
  • Students must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Students must be free of previous felony convictions, which will be confirmed via PreCheck Inc, a firm specializing in background checks for healthcare workers.
  • Results will be directly reported to the Corporate & Community Education Department.

Current nursing practice as related to various clinical areas. Designed for LVNs wishing to return to practice or update previous nursing knowledge.

End-of-Course Outcomes:  Identify the role and functions of the LVN including nursing process application as coordinator of care, provider of care, and member of the profession; identify the legal and ethical aspects of LVN practice; discuss current trends, issues, and client management in disease process across the life span; and demonstrate competency in LVN nursing skills

RNSG 1006 - Re-Entry Nursing Update (120 Hours)

CLASS IN SESSION. REGISTER FOR JANUARY 2015!  

Current nursing practice as related to the clinical areas of medical-surgical, maternal-child, psychiatric-mental health, community health, and emergency nursing care.  This course is designed for inactive nurses returning to active practice.  This course will summarize the Nursing Practice Act of Texas; differentiate and support holistic nursing care for clients and families utilizing appropriate nursing knowledge, experience, and legal/ethical standards of care; compare and contrast the different roles of professional nurses and their contributions to the profession; and utilize critical thinking principles to develop a holistic plan of care for clients with health care needs.
