Student Services - Center for Academic Transitions

Everyone has a great reason for coming to Palo Alto College. The Center for Academic Transitions is the place to get help with planning for your future. An experienced staff is ready to work with you on the career path of your dreams or help you evaluate the best transfer options for your major. Every week we bring four year universities and colleges to you. We might even be able to take you for a virtual tour or campus visit.

We have everything you need to make a successful transition in your academic quest. We will still be here for you after you graduate. Maybe you need a job now or an internship. You might want to find a mentor. Creating a resume is something you have not done before. Where do you start? Come see us. We offer classes, one-on-one services, computer resources and career assessments. Every semester well known companies and institutions come to our career fairs to recruit you. We work to provide you every opportunity you deserve.That includes the following:

Career services

  • Discover and Career Dimensions inventory assessments
  • Career “how to” materials library
  • Workshops in resume writing, interviewing techniques, mock interviews, etc.
  • One on one resumes review and assistance
  • CPS Energy job shadow/ mentoring program
  • Employer panels, workshops, site visits

Job Search and Placement

  • Paid and unpaid internships
  • Work study placement and training
  • Individual assistance for job preparedness and referral
  • Employer on- site recruitment and interviews
  • Job fairs
  • Job Kiosk

Transfer Services

  • Transfer fairs/transfer advisement
  • College bulletins, agreements, publications
  • Degree audits
  • Weekly individual college recruiter on-site visits
  • Special out-of-State program with University of Northern Iowa (10 years) and Iowa visit
  • More than 20 articulation and two plus two agreements with a wide variety of local, state and national universities
  • Transfer experience camp with OLLU Summer 09
  • University visits
  • Referral for scholarship opportunities
