PACfest welcomes the community to PAC

PacFest 2012Organizers for PACfest 2012, an official Fiesta San Antonio event at Palo Alto College, are promising a day filled with fun, food and a big musical line-up on two stages during the alcohol-free, family-oriented Southside festival, April 26.

Nashville newcomer Frankie Ballard and the 1980’s cover band, The Spazmatics, are just two of the many bands performing on the Generations Federal Credit Union stage from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Ballard, winner of Kenny Chesney’s “Next Big Star” competition, is being touted by many in the country music arena as a rising star in the genre. He has opened for Chesney, Bob Seger and Taylor Swift, and brings a bluesy, rocking edge to the country scene. His first two singles, “Tell Me You Get Lonely” and “A Bucha Girls,” were both Top 40 hits.

Admission to PACfest is free between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., but there will be a $5 parking fee for vehicles without a current Alamo Colleges parking permit arriving on campus after 4 p.m.

Introducing Frankie Ballard on the Generations stage will be one of the elite stand-up comedians in the country, Cleto Rodriguez. Additional bands on the Generations stage include Mariachi Palomino, Groove Doctors, River City Kings, and Mario Flores and the Soda Creek Band.

Performing on the Palomino stage will be MyTi and Gabriela Soul, The Chemist, Radio Revolver, Reecluse, Elora Valdez and the Gasoline Alley Band, and Conjunto Palo Alto.

Approximately 50 food, arts and crafts vendors participate in PACfest. Vendors include student and community groups with a cross-section of cultural, social and nutritional offerings. Other concurrent activities throughout the day include a car show; military displays; a “Kid Zone;” a dog walk; and a roller derby exhibition by Charmed Forces, a local non-profit team.

Fiesta royalty visit throughout the day to hand out medals and meet the public.
