What is the Dental Laboratory Technology program?

Dental Laboratory technology is the art and science of custom oral prosthesis fabrication. Technicians fill prescriptions written by licensed dentists for dentures, crowns, bridges, orthodontic appliances and ceramics.

What will I learn?

Students learn dental anatomy, tooth morphology, dental materials and laboratory procedures associated with the five specialties of dental laboratory technology: complete dentures, removable partial dentures, crowns and bridges, orthodontic appliances and ceramics.

What can I do with this course of study?

Most dental laboratory technicians work in commercial dental Laboratory settings.  Opportunities are available with civil service, and for those with higher levels of education, opportunities with dental products companies and research institutions are available.

What's special about program?

The Dental Laboratory Technology Program (DLBT) at San Antonio College had its beginnings at the University Of Texas Health Science Center and operated there from the early nineteen seventies until it was transferred to its present location in 2007. The program has a long history of preparing dental technicians to become vital members of the dental health care team.  Dental Schools are graduating dentists every year and dental technicians are needed to work with them to meet the demand for the oral prostheses required of their patients.DLBT is dedicated to maintaining the high standards set by the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation.
