Orientation to Your Internet Geography Course

Summer Session 2009

Once you enroll in this course, please complete the following steps:

Step 1 - Email me between June 1-10. My address is: deanplambert@yahoo.com

Please note that if you send an email prior to this time period it is likely you will not receive a response because SAC faculty are on vacation until June 8th.

This is the information that you need to email. Note: you will be dropped from the course if this is not emailed by June 10th, 2009:
1. Your correct first and last name (indicate if you go by a different married name).
2. The exact course you are enrolled in (for example, GEOG 1301.090, GEOG 1302.090, GEOG 1303.090, GEOG 1303.091, or GEOG 2470.090).
3. A statement confirming that you "have read, understood, and will comply with all the guidelines set forth in the course syllabus."
4. Your academic major/degree plans.
5. Approximate college hours completed:
6. Reason you are taking this class.
7. Were you taught geography in Elementary/Middle School?
8. Were you taught geography in High School?
9. Where did you live during most of your 1st-12th grade schooling?
10. Previous geography courses (college only).
11. Places you have visited within the United States.
12. Places you have visited outside the United States (if any).
13. Do you speak any languages other than English? If yes, which ones?
14. A valid postal mailing address including Zip code.
15. Phone numbers at which you may take calls.
16. Your birth day, month, and year.
17. The name of your Internet service provider (AOL, Earthlink, Roadrunner, IDEA, etc.).
18. The speed of the modem on your system (28.8, 56k, 1 ghz, DSL, etc.).
19. The number of courses of each type in your schedule this semester.

Step 2 – Complete Modules 1 and 2 of the "READI Self Evaluation" tool by linking here.

Step 3 – Determine if you still want to proceed with this online course. If you chose to stay with the course then go to Step 4.

Step 4 – Log into Blackboard Vista (https://vista.alamo.edu). When you first log into Blackboard Vista you will use your PALS userid and your default password (First 2 letters of your last name and the last six digits of your social security number then click the Login button). If you are having technical problems you should contact Tech Support directly at 210-485-0555. You may also chose to contact the Blackboard Vista support number at 1-866-401-8071. Once you are inside Blackboard Vista (BBV) go to this particular course. Browse through all the tabs on the left side of the browser window and get familiar with all the materials contained in the course.

Step 5 – Start reading the textbook and the lecture notes.

Correspondence Policy
It is crucial that absolutely all of your correspondences with me (email, notes, phone calls, etc.) specifically mentions in which course you are enrolled. In other words, tell me the course number and section. For example, if you are enrolled in GEOG 1301, section 090, so use that information in your message. Provide the appropriate information indicating that you are enrolled in GEOG 1301.090. Also, the Subject Line in all emails should contain your exact course number. If you do not follow this format it is highly likely that I will not recognize your email and I will delete it without opening (thinking it is Spam).
