ADD’L DETAILS
Originally presented at the Public Theatre off Broadway in New York, the modern day setting of this play is down on a lower level of a subway. The characters that live at the subway stop of “5th and Purgatory” are gritty, passionate, and confrontational. They place Judas Iscariot on trial to determine if he should be given another chance at redemption. Throughout the “trial” witness including Jesus, Satan, Mother Teresa, angels, and saints deliver testimony that explores questions that have kept religious scholars debating for centuries. The playwright keeps the play “real” with modern language (often profane) and the comedy representative of the characters and their personalities. This is a riveting play that will keep the audience talking about religious issues long after the performance.
