All candidates for degrees and certificates in December, May and August are encouraged to attend the commencement exercises in May, although attendance is not mandatory. Such participation is ceremonial only and confers on a student no rights to a degree. Graduation is free. There is no cost to the student to apply for graduation, for the diploma, or for the cap and gown. Tickets are not required for entrance to the graduation ceremony.
The SAC Commencement is held at the Freeman Coliseum, 3201 E. Houston St. Students must arrive by 8 a.m. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. Doors open to the public at 9 a.m.
SAC graduates are expected to stay for the entire commencement ceremony.
Graduation Ceremony - May 10, 2014
December graduates, spring and summer candidates for graduation are invited to participate in the May Commencement Ceremony.
There is only one graduation ceremony per year, which is held at the end of the spring semester. Candidates are invited to participate even though spring grades are not posted. Spring and summer candidates' records will be checked again for final approval after grades are posted. Participation in the graduation ceremony does not guarantee fulfillment of requirements or that a degree will be awarded.
Parking Instructions: One free parking pass is provided to each graduation candidate. All others, including family and friends, must pay for parking.
Cap & Gowns: Participants must fill out name cards and pick up caps and gowns in the Fletcher Administration Center, Room 208. Caps and gowns must be picked up the week of April 1 through April 5 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Bring your SAC ID and plan on trying on the regalia before you leave the building.
After the gown has been removed from its packaging and placed on a hanger, it should be pressed with a cool iron to guarantee a neat appearance. Students may keep the caps and gowns.
Graduation Pictures/Video: A professional photographer from Flash Photography will be present during the graduation ceremony to take color pictures of individuals as they receive their diplomas. Only the officially designated photographer will be permitted on stage during the ceremony. The photographer will notify participants regarding pictures. Video recordings by Action Video Productions can also be ordered on graduation day.
The graduation will be recorded and shown on TV (Time Warner Ch. 98, Grande Cable 21 and AT & T/Uverse Ch. 99).
Diplomas: Diploma covers are issued at the commencement ceremony containing a statement about the diplomas. Diplomas are printed after the final review of grades each term.
Degrees should be posted in ACES by June 14.
Diplomas will be mailed out beginning July 14.
