Self-Test Chapter Quizzes (19)

  • Take each 30 question, multiple-choice, chapter self-test located in the Online Learning Student Center, to prepare for the Quizzes.
  • There are 10 questions on each quiz covering two or more chapters.
  • Three to five of the questions are taken directly from the self-tests (even numbers only), one or two questions are written by the instructor.
  • The self-tests are linked on the calendar and paced accordingly; or access direct from the student OLC.
  • Re-test until you have at least 80%.
NOTE: DO NOT email your quiz score to the instructor on the form provided at the end of the test. Keep your own grade record for each self-test. Your two lowest quiz scores will be dropped.

Incomplete policy:

  • The grade of "I" is assigned only when the student has a passing average on all completed work, but for a justified reason (supported by valid documentation such as illness, or death in the family) has failed to take the final examination or to complete other required work.
  • This "I" becomes an "F" in 120 calendar days unless certain conditions are met. To replace an "I" the student must complete the work within those 120 days after the end of the term in which the "I" is issued. Re-enrollment for the course does not replace the "I."

Topic Discussion/ Analysis (3)

  • HIST 2322 is a Writing Intensive (WI) course.
  • There will be one specific topic discussion/writing assignment per unit.
  • Discussion papers need to be word processed (typed), double-spaced with 10-12 fonts and one-inch margin, assignments vary in length and will be discussed in class - normally 3-4 pages, 850-1000 words.
  • Topic discussion papers are due on the assigned date (see schedule) after class discussion. Late papers incur a grading penalty.
  • The cumulative total of the writing assignments (study guide and final paper) and the essay portion of each unit exam is 60% of your final grade.

Exams:

  • There will be two or three ten-fifteen minute quizzes per unit—based primarily on the text, class sessions and the Student Center online multiple choice chapter self-tests — a total of eight (8) for the course.
  • Grades from the six (6) highest will be retained. No make-ups will be given for the quizzes.
  • There will be three (3) one hour unit exams (40% essay, 60% matching/multiple choice) and a final exam.
  • The final exam is comprehensive with questions taken from the unit quizzes.
Retention policy and teaching philosophy:
  • As your instructor I am committed to helping you succeed in this course. If you are having difficulty with the course, please consult me so we can devise a mutually beneficial success strategy for you to acquire the essential knowledge required to achieve your objective in taking this course..
  • On-campus students should consult the Strategies for Success: Study Skills Online .
  • Online students consult Strategies for Success: Study Skills for Online Learners .
  • Before you decide to drop the course contact me to review your case. On one hand, dropping the course may impact your grade point average, financial aid, among other things. On the other hand, be aware than a grade below C may impact on future admission to a senior college, graduate school or other advanced degree programs.
  • Drops/Withdrawals policy - ALL students need to be aware of the 2007 Texas Legislation passed that limits the number of classes students can drop throughout their entire undergraduate career to six (6).
  • Respecting students as individuals, I am committed to helping you construct learning strategies that work best for you.
  • I want each student to be excited about history, to think about history in new and different ways, and to understand and use the past to live effectively in the present.
Scantrons:
  • All students must supply their own pencils and scantrons for exams.
  • Four (4) will be required.
  • A package of scantrons may be purchased at any area college bookstore (form # 882-ES) .
Testing:
  • Quizzes and exams are given on the dates marked in the assignment schedule. All students are expected to take tests in class at that time.
  • If you have an excused absence for a unit test you must arrange with the instructor to take a make-up exam. There are no make-ups possible on the unit quizzes.
Final Exam policy:
  • A student who must be absent from a final examination should petition that instructor for permission to reschedule the examination.
  • A student absent without permission from a final examination is graded "F."
  • Postponed examinations result in a grade of "I."
  • The final examination must be taken within 120 calendar days from the end of the semester, or the grade automatically becomes an "F."
