Associate in Applied Science Degree

Prerequisites
Students must meet with the Human Services (HS) Program Coordinator before enrolling in any HS Program courses. Students enrolling in any of the HS program degree/certificate options must meet all current basic skill pre-requisites. See the current college catalog and course descriptions for additional information, including graduation competency requirements.
The Human Services Associate in Applied Science has 3 specialty options.
The Human Services Program Offers three specialty options leading to an AAS Degree. Certificates are also offered in Drug/Alcohol Abuse Counseling, and Substance Abuse Counseling.
Specialty A, Drug/Alcohol Abuse Counseling is for those students pursuing licensure as chemical dependency counselors. Students completing this degree fulfill the basic requirements set by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) for pursuing licensure as a chemical dependency counselor. Program Learning Outcomes/DAAC AAS Degree
Specialty B, Addiction Studies is designed for individuals who are currently licensed by DSHS as chemical dependency counselors in Texas or Certified by the IC & RC/AODA. Individuals enrolled under this specialty option can receive 18 hours of advanced placement credit toward the AAS degree. Contact the HS Program Coordinator for details.
Program Learning Outcomes/Addiction Studies AAS Degree
Specialty C, Counseling Psychology is designed for students who wish to pursue training in the counseling area but are not necessarily pursuing licensure as a chemical dependency counselor. Students wishing to seek out positions as a mental health technician or similar field, may want to consider this degree option. There is currently no licensure or certification awarded at the AAS degree Level. Contact the HS Program Coordinator for details.
