AlaMOO
This
presentation describes a proposed Educational MOO
for
the Alamo Community College District. MOO stands for
MultiUserDomain
(or Dimension or Dungeon) Object Oriented.
Basically,
in MOOs multiple users can log into a site to
converse
in a text-based virtual reality. They can also interact
with
objects (teaching tools that can be built and programmed
to
respond). MOOs are internet accessible, text mediated
virtual
environments well suited for distance learning. MOOs
also
offer every participant the opportunity to construct spaces
and
objects and to write code that in some way augments or
increases
the functionality with these virtual spaces. In this
sense,
MOOs are constructed social spaces in a dynamic
process
of continual evolution. In recent years, MOOs have
increasingly
been created for educational purposes. Come
hear
this presentation on what an Educational MOO can mean
for
the Alamo Community College District.

On-line Learning Alive!
It
has been shown that students learn best when they feel they
are
a part of a course community. There are many existing
teaching
methods that are used in current classroom courses
that
promote learning. These same methods can be adapted
for
use in the "new" online learning environment. This course
will
cover how to incorporate instructor-led classroom methods
into
online courses to help promote learning.

Budget
Tracking for ACCD Accounts with Excel Spreadsheets
Experienced ACCD budget managers are aware that the
balances
shown in the Advantage system often do not prove
to
be accurate. There can be a delayed reaction in the system
in
showing deductions for what has been expended. When
viewing
the Advantage screens, it is it may show more money
than
is actually there.
Come to this class and get a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet
template
which has been set up for each object code and
automatically
calculates an accurate balance as you type in
the
amounts that are encumbered and or expended. By doing
so
there is no guess work in what is left to be spent. You can
confidently
spend every dollar you are allocated without the
risk
of over-spending.

of classroom technology by way of wireless response system that
uses infrared technology to communicate between a handheld
response pad and a receiver unit. Each unit comes with up to 512
response pads and an appropriate number of receivers to
accommodate a class of any size. With capabilities ranging from
taking attendance to grading tests and quizzes, this virtual aide
allows teachers to emphasize less of their time on monotonous
paperwork, and more of their time on teaching. Teachers are raving
about finally being able to focus more on teaching than ever before.
Students are more excited about learning and are enthralled with the
interactivity CPS brings to the classroom. The combination of easy-
