Art Display Policy
In order to promote civic, cultural, educational, and intellectual stimulus to our community San Antonio College Library and Media Services Department will make available designated display areas on the second, third, and fourth floor walls for art exhibits.
Conditions for the Public Use of Display Spaces
The LMS Chairperson is responsible for the administration of this policy.
The LMS Chairperson will appoint an Art Display Coordinator from among the LMS Faculty to work on art exhibits.
The Art Display Coordinator will facilitate publicity about exhibits with college and local newspapers and will post signs in the LMS.
The LMS Chairperson will also appoint an art selection committee composed of three members, one of whom is the Art Display Coordinator.
All work for display will be approved by the LMS Chairperson.
Exhibitors must provide photos of each item. On the back of each photo the title of the work, dimensions, and name, address, telephone number of the artist must be written.
A checklist of all pieces on display must be completed, signed and submitted to the Art Display Coordinator before the exhibit is installed. The exhibitor will receive a copy of the Agreement Form and Inventory List. At the end of the exhibit the exhibitor will sign the list, indicating that all art work has been returned to him/her.
All work needs to be hangable, whether it be paintings, photography, stained glass, framed silk, ceramics, tapestries/weavings, wooden plates and bowls, etc.
No price tags may be posted. However, a price list, description of the artwork on display and biographical information about the artist may be left at the Reference Desk and made available to the public upon request.
All work will be displayed for up to a two month period.
All work must be original by the submitting artist.
Display material must not contain offensive, obscene, profane or indecent content.
Display material must not promote, encourage or entice violence.
The LMS does not provide insurance coverage for exhibit items. Exhibitors will be responsible for providing coverage for items exhibited. No special security will be provided for art work. Exhibitors must complete and sign a form listing the contents of the display and releasing the LMS from liability in the case of damage to or thefts of items.
The LMS will not take responsibility or assume liability for materials in displays and will require the exhibitor or his/her representative or exhibiting organization to sign a document identifying and releasing the LMS from responsibility. The exhibitor or the exhibiting organization will be held liable for any damage to LMS property resulting from mounting or removing a display.
The exhibitor or exhibiting organization will be responsible for the installation and removal of the display at a time and in a manner specified under the Agreement and Terms of Display. Artists will be responsible for bringing their own supplies, including tools. The LMS will provide special hooks/hangers and labels. The name of the artist and title of the art work will be printed on the label. The labels will be be placed on the back of the art work.
The LMS will retain the right to deny space to any user whose use or planned use of space does not comply with these conditions.
