1. JOB PERFORMANCE - This criterion is basically interpreted as professional services according to duties
specified in the candidate's official job description. Also to be considered are such points as:
efficiency and productivity of the person;
professional aptitude and knowledge of his/her work;
evidence of innovative ability and initiative.
These considerations can be applied to such specifics as preparing/producing/designing materials for instructional or informative needs; conducting effective library instruction; cataloging according to standards; supervising conscientiously the work of others.

2. PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES - Included in this area is consideration of the applicant's involvement in
activities which either enhance the individual's professional capabilities, or further the status or causes of
librarianship, education, and the learning resources area. Appropriate activities may include:
membership and offices held in professional organizations;
attendance at local, state, regional, or national conferences of associations related to the profession;
participation in workshops, seminars, and other non-credit educational activities of a professional nature;
contributions to professional literature;
panel presentations or speeches to professional groups;
service on evaluation or judging teams involved in accreditation procedures, scholarship awards, or similar services;
public service that is representative of faculty participation in community affairs.

3. DEMONSTRATED CHARACTERISTICS - The candidate will be evaluated on the following
demonstrated characteristics desirable for a Library faculty member:
Professional manner or behavior (maintaining discretion when dealing with either colleagues or patrons;
showing loyalty to both the profession and the institution; exhibiting high standards of conduct,
especially in public areas, etc.);
thoughtful use of time (promptness; good judgement in establishing priorities, etc.);
emotional stability (limiting the encroachment of personal concerns into the work day);
positive attitude (including qualities of self-confidence, optimism, enthusiasm, and cheerfulness);
flexibility and adaptability;
integrity, dependability, and consistency;
willingness to accept responsibility, generosity, and cooperativeness;
initiative, aggressiveness, creativity, and resourcefulness.
