MESA stands for Mathematics, Engineering, and Science
Achievement and is a national program that was established in California in 1970 to
serve students in preparation for
pre-college and college levels in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and
Math) disciplines. Since it's establishment the MESA program has helped students become scientists,
engineers and mathematicians, filling a growing national need for qualified technical
professionals.
STEM Majors Include:
Biology
Chemistry
Computer Programing
Computer Science
Engineering
Environmental Science
Geology
General Science
Mathematics
Natural Science
Physics
In 2007 a MESA Center was established on the San Antonio
College campus becoming the first MESA site in the state of Texas. Much like the California program, the SAC
MESA Center functions to support SAC students perusing degrees in the STEM
disciplines and to prepare them to continue their education in seeking a 4-year
degree and graduate school. The MESA Center cannot only help you
graduate, but graduate with a level of confidence that will empower your
post-graduate success and achievement. While the center is available to all San Antonio College students, an enhanced level of support is available for
students who become a MESA member. All
students enrolled in STEM courses are invited to meet with Ms. Analisa Garza,
MESA Study Center Coordinator, to review the benefits and responsibilities of
MESA membership.
