SAC gets special designation from NSA and Homeland Security

SAN ANTONIO, TX (May 13, 2013) – San Antonio College has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance 2-Year Education by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security.    This designation covers academic years 2013 through 2015.

In a letter from the NSA, the college was cited for its “ability to meet the increasing demands of the program criteria will serve the nation well in contributing to the protection of the National Information Infrastructure.”

“We are very proud of this designation from Homeland Security. It further exemplifies the accomplishments of the faculty and staff of the Computer Information Systems (CIS) Department and especially the students, many of whom are part of the Information and Technology and Security Academy (ITSA),” said Dr. Robert Zeigler, president of San Antonio College.

The CIS Department teaches  the skills necessary to provide network and system administration skills with additional security concerns and skills. The computer security area is the newest and fastest growing sector of the Information Technology profession.
