One by one, Edith McAllister greeted her guests Wednesday evening at the front door of her 100-year old home. With a warm smile and a gracious welcome, Mrs. McAllister opened her home to the McAllister Society members, student scholars, and SAC administrators including Dr. Robert Zeigler, President of San Antonio College. Alamo Colleges Chancellor, Dr. Bruce Leslie, along with key development personnel, was also in attendance.
During this reception, members of the McAllister Society were able to meet this year’s Walter McAllister Society Scholars including:
• Rafael Angarita (Biology)
• Shawna Amick (Paralegal Studies)
• Josephine Arnold (Natural Sciences)
On behalf of all of the students, Josephine Arnold spoke to the group and told them her unique story and path to San Antonio College. After dancing with the San Antonio Ballet as a professional ballerina for four years, she decided to take a different path and pursue a career in the allied health industry. Coming to SAC as a nursing student, she decided to follow the path of Natural Sciences with hopes of teaching one day.
The Walter McAllister Society is a group of donors who give at least $1,000 or more annually in flexible funding to San Antonio College through the Alamo Colleges Foundation. Society members understand that the college needs support to fulfill our mission of providing for and supporting the education and lifelong learning needs of a multicultural community.
For more information on becoming a member, contact San Antonio College Director of Institutional Advancement, Pamela Tyrone-Tyler at 210-486-1387 or ptyrone@alamo.edu.
