New Ranger image unveiled at Welcome Week
The new San Antonio College Rangers image was officially
unveiled during Welcome Week with T-shirts, posters and a cake that served 100
people in a special event on Thursday, Aug. 29, in the Loftin Student Center.
During Welcome Week students and staff received T-shirts
with the new designed Ranger logo. Incoming students who attended the New
Student Orientation on Aug. 23 also received a drawstring backpack that sported
the new Rangers image.
Designed by Dan Melgoza, an Alamo Colleges senior multimedia
specialist, the new image has the word Rangers in SAC red below San Antonio
College, and a cowboy hat sporting a star.
In his remarks to Thursday’s gathering of students, staff
and administration, President Robert Zeigler explained how the Ranger has been
part of SAC since its inception. The
college newspaper was originally dubbed the Junior Ranger when it was established

Beginning…1925-1956,” former San Antonio College president Jerome F.
Weynand writes about the Rangerettes who were formed in 1926 as part of the
Girls Athletic Association. They wore
western outfits – and performed at college functions. In 1947/48 there was a softball team called
the SAC Rangers, made up of students who played in a city recreational
