WHAT
San Antonio College to offer free ENGR 1377 – Intro Math for
Engineering Applications.
This prototype, noncredit course provides an
application-oriented, hands-on introduction to math topics widely used in core
freshman and sophomore-level engineering and physics courses. Selected topics from Algebra, Calculus,
and Trigonometry are presented within the context of physical applications and
reinforced with extensive examples of their use in core physics and engineering
(e.g., civil, mechanical, electrical) courses. Concepts presented in lecture and recitation sessions are
reinforced through hands-on applications in a laboratory.
WHO
Engineering & Science majors at any of the Alamo
Colleges.
WHEN
Fall semester 2012. Course times:
Monday
@ 6:30 - 9 p.m.
(Lecture/Recitation – CAC 244)
Wednesday @ 6:30
- 9 p.m. (Lab/Recitation – CAC 237)
WHY
Why take this course:
• Increased
understanding, motivation, and ability to use “just-in-time” math to solve
“real-world” physics and engineering problems
• Increased
motivation and ability to succeed in core freshman and sophomore engineering
and physics courses
• Potential
to enroll in select freshman and sophomore engineering and physics courses prior to completing the
required calculus sequence
• Equivalent
to prototype courses being fielded at UTSA, TAMUK, UTEP and 13 other
colleges/universities nationwide
• No
tuition, lab or textbook costs – funded by NSF grant
HOW
Prerequisite:
Math 0303 (Intermediate Algebra) with a grade of C or above or
equivalent
