Writing Center Donation

$27,000 Donated to the SAC Writing Center for Writing Across the Curriculum

The Alamo Colleges Foundation has donated $27,000 from various sources to support writing at San Antonio College. The targeted campaign, raised funds from multiple donors to expand the capacity of the SAC Writing Center.

An event celebrating this donation was held Wednesday at the SAC Writing Center, Room 203 of  Gonzales Hall.  Jane Focht-Hansen, director of the Writing Center, and  Dr. Lennie Irvin, assistant director, introduced Hall Hammond and Steve Hixon, two of the donors at the celebration.

In his comments at the Writing Center,  SAC President  Dr. Robert Zeigler said: “We appreciate how Hall Hammond has reached out to the community. And we appreciate that all of you recognize how important writing is.”

Mr. Hammond was cited as being crucial to the fund raising campaign.

“This goes back to my sophomore year in high school when I had a great English teacher,” Mr. Hammond said. “It’s student success that counts. I am not just raising money, I am trying to raise awareness of what a great resource (the Writing Center) is here.”

The Writing Center offers tutoring, open computer lab, workshops and resources texts. Three new part-time employees are tutoring in the Writing Center, thanks to this generous donation.

Hours of operation are:  8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

For an appointment, call 210-486-1433, or visit www.alamo.edu/sac/wctr for more information.
