Clinical Course: Introduction to Nursing

Course
Description
This course
introduces the role of the professional nurse as provider of care, coordinator
of care and member of a profession. Topics include but are not limited
to the fundamental concepts of nursing practice, history of professional
nursing, a systematic framework for decision-making, mechanisms of disease,
the needs and problems that nurses help patients manage and basic psychomotor
skills. The emphasis will focus on the knowledge, judgment, skills and
professional values of nursing within a legal/ethical framework.

Learning
Outcomes
Describe
the roles of the nurse in the delivery of health care; demonstrate competence
in the performance of basic nursing skills; and begin critical thinking
in a systematic problem solving process.
The student
will demonstrate competency of the learning outcomes as evidenced by
achieving an average of 70% in the graded components of the course consisting
of unit exams, quizzes and a comprehensive final exam.

introduces the student to nursing and the roles of the associate degree
nurse and foundations for nursing practice in the Generic program option.
