We shall use the discussion board in Blackboard Vista which is accessed by clicking the "Discussions" tool on the left hand side of the Blackboard Vista Home Page.

Note: I am not going to grade your participation in the Discussion Board. However, I think you will find participation interesting and if your grade is borderline, your demonstrated participation would be helpful to boost your to the desired side of that border.

    Elluminate Chat

Elluminate is a program which will allow us to communicate with one another in real time. It will allow you to hear me through your computer’s speakers. If you have a microphone for your computer, you will be able to talk to me and the other participants in the session. If you don’t have a microphone, you can still type your questions and comments into Elluminate’s instant message box and have those messages read by me and the other session participants. There is also a whiteboard on which we can write, draw, share applications, and do a number of other useful things. The day and time for our Elluminate sessions will be emailed to you at the beginning of the semester.

Note: I am not going to grade your participation in the Elluminate sessions. However, I think you will find them interesting and if your grade is borderline, your demonstrated participation would be helpful to boost your to the desired side of that border.

    Text and Study Materials

    1. Religions of the World, 11th. Ed., by Lewis M. Hopfe and Mark R. Woodward, Prentice Hall, ISBN: 0-13-606177-X. You may purchase this text online from the SAC Bookstore.
    2. There is also a Study Guide in a file of the same name on the course's Blackboard Vista Home Page
    3. In addition, there is additional information for the Introduction/Overview Chapter of the text in the Supplementary Notes file on the Blackboard Vista Home Page.

    Tests & Quizzes

There will be 4 tests during the semester. Each will comprise only multiple choice and true/false questions. For each test or quiz you should first read the textual material which the test covers and then concentrate on mastering the study guide points from the Study Guide file on the Blackboard Vista Home Page. The material covered for each test is given in the course's calendar which is accessed by clicking the "Calendar" tool which is on the left hand side of the Blackboard Vista Home Page. Each of the tests will count 200 points. All tests will be taken unproctored on-line in Blackboard Vista. You access the tests by clicking the "Assessments" tool which is on the left hand side of the Blackboard Vista Home Page and then following the directions given there.

NOTE: You can  familiarize yourself with test-taking in Blackboard Vista by taking the "Practice Test". You may take the practice test as many times as you like in order to familiarize yourself with test-taking in Blackboard Vista. Of course, the grade on this practice test does not count toward your semester's grade. As with the regular tests, you access the Practice by clicking the "Assessments" tool which is on the left hand side of the Blackboard Vista homepage and then following the directions given there.

FINAL EXAM:The final exam will consist of 25 objective questions (true/false; multiple choice) from Chapters 1, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13 of the text. The questions will be drawn from the true/false and multiple choice questions given in the text's website for each chapter. Although I may change the wording somewhat of some of the questions, you can effectively prepare for the final by reviewing these questions from the text's website. The final exam will count 100 points and it will also be taken on line in Blackboard Vista.

    Paper Assignment

Each student is required to send me a 1000 word (minimum) term paper. Possible topics and other particulars are given in Term Paper Instructions file on the course's Blackboard Vista Home Page. The paper will count 100 points.
