The large red model, also known as “Variation on the Truncated Icosahedron” (or soccer ball), contains 3,600 pieces and is held together with white glue and 55,440 paper clips. It is made of florescent poster board.
Dan Suttin, a retired teacher and current SAC student, created this geometric sculpture that is on display in the Academic Instruction Center. Mr. Suttin created the Big Ball in 500 hours at his home and had previously displayed it at the Guardian Angel Performance Arts Academy within the Blue Star Arts Complex and the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. It was re-assembled in 30 hours in its new location, the first floor of the AIC |
